The TEDx Rules
When the TEDx New Jersey Libraries event happened, it was forced to follow the strict guidelines of the TED conferences. This is because it was a franchise event that was conducted by a third party and not the actual organizers of the TED conferences. Like many other TEDx events, the creators of the TEDx New Jersey program were inspired by the original idea and wanted to keep the same type of framework for the conference. There are certain rules for a TEDx conference that must be followed.
The first rule of any TEDx program is that it must be limited in both the size of the conference and the length of its duration. Official invitations are sent out with only one hundred people being allowed to attend the festivities. In addition, a TEDx event can only last for up to one full day. These rules are meant to keep the talks in focus on a particular subject and allow only experts in the field to take part in the discussions.
During the TEDx conference, there are also rules about showing talks that were created during the official TED program. In this manner, many of the TEDx events have been created as a spinoff of certain TEDTalks due to their highly informative nature. For events that only last for half a day, at least two of the TEDTalks must be shown. In cases where the event is scheduled to go longer than half a day, at least 25 percent of the content must be from TEDTalks.
Yet another rule for the TEDx events is that all of the speakers must be doing their presentation on a voluntary basis and receive no financial compensation for their involvement. In addition, they must agree that the recordings of their speeches be owned by the TED conference.
