TED conference and health
On the latest TED conference held in Long Beach, the majority of the topics discussed were about health and health care. An special guest that caused a lot of impression with his talk "Medicine for the 99 percent" was Thomas Poggue. On his debate he discussed the possibility to encourage the big pharmaceutical companies to produce much-needed drugs, he proposed a $6 billion plan to revolutionize the way medications are developed and sold.
Also in the health care section of the TED Conference, the topic for the erectile dysfunction condition on men was discussed. Nowadays the main treatment available that men can buy is Viagra, or also men with this condition can
buy Cialis or another generic version, but it is limited to the family of the PDE5 inhibitors, in the future this may change as the scientists are constantly working to develop new treatments for this and some other different conditions.
Another topic that was very polemical but in a good way was the talk by the Doctor Anthony Atala on regenerative organs and growing organs. This research presented at TED conference is really important for all the world in general as this would be of extremely importance for the medicine in the future. Imagine to cure any existing terminal disease by replacing the affected organ with an organ cultivated on a laboratory. This research is having a lot of supporters all over the world and with reason. Right now, the research is based primarily on regenerating and growing livers and kidneys because that is what the majority of people on the waiting lists for donor organs are waiting for but if the research turns to be successful, it can extended for the research for new organs.
Among other topics discussed related to health on the TED conference were the talks by Annie Lennox on HIV/AIDS and the child prodigy Birke Baehr with the talk of a healthier food system and both were well accepted by the audience.
